Montazah Palace area in Alexandria
In 331 BC, Alexander the Great chose the Pharaonic village of Raqouda, which was an outlet for the trade of the Pharaohs with the Greeks, to be the nucleus of Alexandria. Later on to the tongue separating the eastern port of Alexandria from its western port, and then the city of Alexandria grew east after the canal of Mahmudiya Canal in 1820 and the extension of railways to Cairo and the construction of the Corniche road, which extends from the Montazah Palace in the east to the Palace of Ras al-Teen in the west.

Montazah Tourism and Investment Company has been managing and developing the 375-acre Al-Montazah Palace area since 1983 through key principles:
- Reviving, developing and preserving the region’s rare green heritage.
- To develop the tourist benefit from the historical buildings in the area.
- Maximizing the economic return of existing buildings within the region.
In this regard, the company has carried out a number of works throughout its management of the region, including:
- Modernization of greenhouses and nurseries and making use of them as an economic unit.
- Add about 110 acres to the landscaping within the boundaries of the area.
- Scientific classification of collections of rare plants and trees, conservation and compensation of lost ones.
- Restoration and periodic maintenance of the breakwater and lighthouse in the area as an important historical group as well as the protection of the area from the sea core.
- Restoration of the main gate and fences to keep them in their original condition.
- Renovation of infrastructure facilities to keep pace with development requirements.
- Modernize existing buildings without affecting their original character and utilize them in distinguished tourism projects.
The project of the management of the Montazah Palace is three hundred and seventy-five workers occupying buildings area of only 15 acres.
