يجري العمل في دراسات مشروع الجسر البري بين مصر والسعودية أو جسر “الملك سلمان” والذي سيربط بين شمال غرب السعودية في منطقة تبوك الواقعة على البحر الأحمر، بمحافظة جنوب سيناء في شمال شرق مصر، عبر جزيرة تيران.
ومن المتوقع أن يستغرق بناء الجسر نحو 8 أعوام بتكلفة متوقعة تتراوح بين 4 — 5 مليارات دولار، كما يتوقع أن يصل طول الجسر بين 7 إلى 10 كم، وسيمثل الجسر فائدة اقتصادية للبلدين إذ سيبلغ حجم التجارة السنوي المتوقع من الجسر 200 مليار دولار سنويا.
وكان العاهل السعودي الملك سلمان بن عبد العزيز، قد أعلن عن اتفاقه مع الرئيس المصري عبد الفتاح السيسي على بناء الجسر، خلال القمة المصرية السعودية بالقاهرة في أبريل/نيسان 2016، وأعلن الرئيس المصري أن الجسر سيحمل اسم “جسر الملك سلمان بن عبد العزيز”.
King Salman Causeway, The project’s scope of work involves the construction of a 7~10 kilometres causeway connecting Saudi Arabia and Egypt. The causeway will link Ras Humaid in the northern Saudi region of Tabuk to the Red Sea resort of Sharm El-Sheikh and will pass through Tiran Island at the entrance of the Gulf of Aqaba.
The proposed construction projects aim to create closer links between the two nations and have the potential to create plenty of jobs on both sides. This is part of a greater plan by the Egyptian government that intends to repopulate the Sinai peninsula. It will also provide an alternative Hajj route and is expected to serve a million passengers and pilgrims annually.
The overall volume of trade activity is estimated to reach $200bn annually once the causeway becomes fully operational
